The Toyota Prius 1.8 Hybrid is a mid-size hatchback built around a 1.8L petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 1.3 kWh nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The CVT-based hybrid drive system is smooth and quiet in city traffic, and the electric motor handles low-speed crawling well — which is exactly where Karachi and Lahore stop-and-go conditions work in its favour. Real-world city mileage typically lands in the 18-22 km/l range depending on AC use and traffic, making running costs noticeably lower than a comparable petrol-only car.
The Prius has been in Pakistan long enough that hybrid mechanics are available in major cities, and Toyota's dealer network covers servicing reasonably well. The hybrid battery is the main long-term concern — replacement costs are significant if the pack degrades, though units imported in good condition often run well past 150,000 km. Resale value is generally solid in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, where fuel savings are a real selling point for buyers.
