Changan Automobile traces its corporate lineage to 1862, when its predecessor was established as a military arms manufacturer during the late Qing dynasty — making Changan one of the oldest industrial enterprises in China. The company moved into vehicle production in the 1950s under the brand's current name, and is today one of the four state-owned automotive groups, partnered globally with Ford, Suzuki, and Mazda.
In Pakistan, Changan is assembled and sold by Master Motor Limited — a member of the Master Group of Companies — with its plant in the Port Qasim industrial area of Karachi. Local production began in 2018, and the lineup has expanded steadily: the Karvaan and M9 in the commercial / van space, the Alsvin compact sedan, and the Oshan X7 SUV. Changan has positioned itself as the value Chinese option, undercutting the Korean and Japanese mainstream while offering more interior tech as standard.
The brand's relevance in Pakistan today is largely about price discipline. The Alsvin is one of the most affordable compact sedans on the market with a real touchscreen, push-button start, and modern safety features — a combination that simply wasn't available at this price point five years ago.
