Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967 by Chung Ju-yung in Seoul, growing out of his Hyundai Engineering and Construction empire. Within two decades the company went from licence-building Ford Cortinas to designing its own small cars; today the Hyundai-Kia Motor Group is one of the world's largest automakers, with a reputation built on long warranties, generous standard equipment, and aggressive price-to-content ratios.
In Pakistan, Hyundai is sold and assembled by Hyundai Nishat Motor Limited — a joint venture between the Nishat Group, Sojitz Corporation of Japan, and Hyundai Motor Company. The plant near Faisalabad began production in 2020 with the Tucson and has expanded to include the Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe, Porter pickup, and the Ioniq EV lineup. The brand's positioning is the modern alternative to the long-established Japanese players: roomier cabins, more tech as standard, and stronger styling — at prices that still undercut Toyota and Honda at the segment.
What makes Hyundai relevant in Pakistan today is its breadth. Few brands cover the budget pickup, family sedan, mid-size SUV, and electric segments under one dealer roof — and the Ioniq 5 and 6 give Hyundai an EV story that most Pakistani brands still don't have.
